FRIDAY REMINDER || AT-TIBB EDITION (23RD JUMADA AL-AWWAL,1447AH — NOVEMBER 14, 2025)

IBAADAH AND THE CONDITIONS FOR ITS ACCEPTABILITY

BISMILLAH...

Ibaadah in Islam literally means worship, which is the highest form of humility before Allah. It is solely the reason behind human creation Allah says "I did not create the jinn and humans except that they may worship Me.” Q51Vs56 That is, the main goal of every single human being is to worship his Creator.

Often, it is sometimes misunderstood as actions alone. Ibaadah is actually defined as anything that Allah loves and is happy with in actions and sayings, whether apparent or hidden. Therefore, Ibaadah is not just observing the five daily prayers, fasting, giving Zakaat or performing hajj. It involves every single statement uttered, which Allah loves whether in public or private.

While Ibaadah is the major duty of human beings to Allah, It has to be perfected and accepted to fulfill the main purpose - attaining Allah's pleasure and reward.

From the hadeeth reported by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that says: "Verily, Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but rather He looks at your hearts and actions.”

This shows that the acceptance of act of worship requires two conditions:

1) Al-Ikhlaas

2) Al-Mutaaba’ah

First, Al Ikhlas (Sincerity): This is the sanctification of the acts of worship from every blemish of the soul's desire. That is, the act of worship should solely be for Allah alone and devoid of seeking any worldly benefit. For example, prayers, fasting, hajj, utterances should not be perfected just because they are done in public, they should be done with total sincerity towards Allah a

Second, Al Mutaaba'ah (Following the Sunnah of the prophet,peace be upon him.)

Allah says: in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:3), "This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as a religion".

The verse shows that no addition or subtraction is allowed in the affairs of Islam. For instance, Ramadan must always be 29/30 days, prayers should be done in their required raka'ats. And, they should all be performed as performed by the prophet, peace be upon him. This involves considering when and how they were done, unless the actions will be void. May Allah protect us from that

The prophet peace be upon him said: "Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not of it, it will be rejected". (Bukhari and Muslim)

Conclusion: Ibaadah is a sensitive aspect of our religion that should be taken seriously. A true believer must constantly strive to purify his intention and follow the teachings of the prophet, peace be upon him. Only through that, should there be hope for acceptance and reward from Allah.

May Allah keep us firm on His path, grant us sincerity in all our acts of worship and make the teachings of the prophet easier for us to follow (Aameen).

As Muslim pharmacists and students, understanding the real scope of our work helps us appreciate how our daily efforts, when done with sincerity, become acts of worship (ʿibadah).
