 Jannah Beneath Their Feet: The Virtue of Kindness to Parents Bismillahi Rahmani-Raheem  Honouring one’s parents is one of the greatest duties in Islam, carrying immense spiritual rewards and blessings. Islam places parents in a position of deep respect, compassion, and gratitude. Their sacrifices, whether seen or unseen shape our lives from childhood to adulthood. This is why Allah repeatedly reminds believers to treat their parents with the highest level of kindness. Allah says in the Qur’an: “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents..” (Qur’an 17:23).  This verse places kindness to parents immediately after the command to worship Allah alone, showing its importance. In the same verse, Allah continues: “If one or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them even a word of irritation, nor rebuke them, but speak to them noble words.” This teaches us that even the smallest sign of annoyance is discouraged.
